Three
Today is a mini celebration with three tiny and delicious cupcakes from That Takes the Cake, Sequim’s cupcake mecca. My first post went live three years ago today. Counting this one, that’s 1,072 posts. It’s been an adventure.
I’ve seen more things through my camera than I ever imagined. I’ve done more things, too, in the service of blogging. Peering more deeply at the mundane, stopping by the sides of roads, thinking in pictures, introducing myself to strangers…and, yes, sitting at the computer, all come to mind.
I’ve “met” a lot of interesting bloggers from around the world and seen inspiring, amazing images.
It’s gratifying that people like you visit this blog and that some even make time to comment. And it’s nice, too, to capture bits of life in photographs. Thanks for joining me on the ride!
And since today is sort of about me here’s a selfie of me dazzling the world with my high end Brownie Hawkeye.
Theme Day: Bakeries
There we were with our weekend guests, downtown Sequim, and about to go home for dinner. Then I remembered: what about dessert? Okay, maybe I didn’t just “remember.” We were mere steps away from cupcake heaven, That Takes the Cake, and lemon blueberry and carrot cupcakes to go.
The baker was about to put finishing touches on this cake in the kitchen. She graciously brought it out when I asked if I could take a picture. Happy birthday, Katlyn!

Let us eat cake
Here are some of the creations showcased by That Takes the Cake, one of Sequim’s newest bakeries. Their Facebook page shows other creations. They also make specialty or theme cakes, so you don’t have to get married to justify ordering a memorable cake if your budget allows more of a wow factor than the standard sheetcake we all know so well.
There’s another new bakery in town that I’ll check out oneday soon. Stay tuned!
That Takes the Cake
A newspaper article announced the opening of “That Takes the Cake.” It sounded like a bakery I could resist and I thought I’d dodged the bullet: they specialize in wedding cakes. But I knew I was a goner when I read on. They also sell cupcakes. Oh, no! Cupcakes! The carb-lover’s excuse to go shopping. . .and the Sequim Daily Photo’s opportunity to show you a new business in town.
Here’s the impulse showcase for walk-ins: cupcake heaven. Flavors change daily and the menu is posted on their Facebook page. The shot at the top of this post is the frosting on the cupcake that went home with me. It was real (and delicious) buttercream on a red velvet cupcake. It wasn’t an easy decision. While I weighed my choices I also took photos of some of the sample wedding cakes stationed around the two rooms where guests can sample goodies or bring friends for a party.
The wedding cakes were beautiful. I’ll post some pictures of them tomorrow.
