We went to pick out our Christmas tree yesterday late afternoon at Lazy J Tree Farm. I wrote about them in October when we took our garden remains there to compost.
It was our first time cutting down our own tree and we made it an experience. Put in a Christmas CD on the way (Christmas season doesn’t officially start for me until I’ve heard the song Santa Baby, Kellie Pickler’s version of it is my favorite that I’ve heard so far) to get in the mood. We pulled onto the farm and we were greeted by a young man who provided us the basic information and handed us a saw. Then we drove down the dirt road and it’s about 6o or 80 acres, I’ve heard both figures, but it’s a LOT of trees to pick from. We searched for about 30 minutes and never crossed direct paths with anyone, even though we saw about 10 different people parked there when we were there. Then we found the one we wanted and my husband cut it down, we loaded it up and brought it back to the barn where they measured it. In the barn they have a cute store with Christmas goodies, gifts and wreaths. Very festive. There is a holiday event coming up there next Saturday. When we left my husband and I both had the mind frame of why haven’t we done it this way before.

You have really got the Christmas Spirit! I will have to scout this place out and go through their gift shop! We have a fake tree that looks real…it really does. But in the past we have gone the route of Dig-Up-Your -Own ( as opposed to Cut-Your-Own) and then planting the tree somewhere in our yard. Maybe we will get to the event next Sat!
First of all, thank you for stopping by Cedar Key Daily Photo and commenting. Much appreciated.
Secondly, now I’ve found your blog! Very nice. Love this story (and the photos) of picking out and cutting down your Xmas tree. Reminds me a bit of how the movie Christmas Vacation starts!
Lazy J Tree Farm sounds like a very nice place. What a fun day you must have had!
These nice people had a tree giveaway a couple of months ago. We got a lovely little noble fir that’s now planted in our yard. In all they dug up and gave away over 800 trees, all by word of mouth.
Sounds like it was a great day. Love your photos from your shopping trip.
that is sooo cool, cutting down your own tree! now im waiting for a picture when its all set up and decorated!
