What a treat to have such dappled sunlight on the trail this am.

Wildlife Wednesday
Merganzer mama and chicks up in Crecsent Lake Alaska.
Pelicans off Rialto
This must be the year of the Pelican! I have never seen so many Pelicans at the beaches here before.
Faraway Friday-Galapagos
This Blue Footed Booby mom has one big fuzzy chick!
Wildlife Wednesday Black bear cubs
Ok photographically this is pretty soft…but this bear family was WAY up in the cliffs about 300yds from shore. It was the only cubs we saw at Lake Skilak in AK.
Motor on Mr. Puffin
I took this off of protection island a few months ago. We could only find 3 puffins. This used to be one of the largest colonies on the west coast. I talked with a marine biologist who said it was predation by eagles that have changed this area. Too many chicks picked off so they don’t return. So sad…they are really cool birds.
A whale’s tail
Got this fun shot of a baby grey whale at whale cove on the Oregon coast. It was swimming with its mom and at the time we thought it was the tale of one and the other’s face. But later we learned from a docent that these huge whales can curve up like a banana (or more). So now I think it was just the baby. WE were so surprised how close to the rock they kept.
