This salmon is climbing the ladder of rapids at the Solduc river. I could have sat there all day watching this determined group.

SolDuc Falls
This is a BEAUTIFUL spot to hike with several loops of different lengths. Most with good boardwalks or paths. It a little over an hours drive from Sequim. If you stay at the lodge there you can g in the thermal pools. I’ve never been but it looked mighty inviting after our hikes.
The salmon run (flight)
When a friend and I went to Solduc falls, we saw quite a line up pulled over at the rive so we stopped to see what was the commotion. The salmon were running heavily and it was so fun to watch them launch themselves up the little falls.
Ahhhh for LOVE
When my friend and I were hiking Sol Duc we saw this couple in wedding garb hiking the trail. I caught them at the Falls. I really liked this shot with her reaching out for him (right after her photographer had jus “fluffed” her dress)
If anyone knows who they are, I’d love to send them the photos.
Sol Duc Falls
Sol Duc Falls is only a 1.8 mile RT trail from the main parking lot. Not too much elevation climb. But then you are rewarded BIG TIME with a three horsetail falls with multiple view points. For this one I climbed out and down from the main trail.
Sol Duc has a hot springs and a lodge with little cabins for rent. It’s about 90 minutes from Sequim.
Running the Sol Duc
Watching these salmon run the rapids up the Sol Duc River to spawn was jaw dropping. They sure are determined. They’d launch and splat on the wall just to the right of this salmon. You could hear the slap from hundreds of feet away. Then they’d get swept back down the rapids…It’s gotta be frustrating even for a fish!
Faraway Friday-N Spitsbergen
This large glacier in the high Arctic is melting off into three waterfalls. You can see it feeding silt into the water which the shrimp and fish like…And the Puffins really like the eat those! This island has one of the highest concentrations of breeding Atlantic Puffins in the world.
