A cold, steely grey day frames the Olympic Mountains in late afternoon.

I’m always chasing rainbows
We’ve had plenty of rain — and wind — lately. The day I took this last week we had several squalls that featured horizontal rain. In between we had rainbows. And as I raced to catch this one I noticed it was a double rainbow. Can you see the faint second one to the left in this shot? It’s very faint.
Here’s the other end of the same rainbow. You can see the second one a little better on the right.
The wild weather isn’t over yet. Snow — not common around here — has been forecast.
On the road
Here’s the view looking south on Cays Road. The Olympic Mountains are nestled behind the clouds and the road is drying from rain showers.
I wish this were mine
I didn’t take this shot. My friend Marie did. As you can see, Marie is quite a photographer.
This is a beach in Gualala, California and Marie turned back to have a look on her way home from an afternoon of fishing. It’s too great a shot not to share, don’t you think? Thank you, Marie!
Best view
In my humble opinion this is one of the best view spots of the Sequim valley. It’s a view from the Dungeness Cemetery, where yesterday’s pictures were also taken. I’ve posted it before and will no doubt post it again.
The other mountains
It’s an uncommon treat to see Mount Baker as clearly as I did last week. Baker and the Cascade Mountains, east of Sequim, are frequently hidden in overcast or haze; Baker often seems to float in a blurred mist.
First snow
We’ve had a series of rain storms lately. At times like these the mountains are cloaked in clouds for days on end, wall-to-wall grey. It’s cause for celebration to see them again.
When they’ve emerged lately they’ve had fresh snowcaps. It looks like there’s enough that they’ll stay like this a while.
