Here is another photo from last Thursday, while the snow was still solidly on the ground. The Dungeness bluffs looked very different cloaked in snow. They are usually a dark, sandy grey. This is a view looking south and west toward Port Angeles and the Olympic Mountains are hidden in cloud cover beyond the distant bluffs.

Snowbound
Yesterday was our third consecutive day of snow. We’ve limited our travels to walks in the Dungeness Recreation Area; it snows infrequently enough here that we’re a little leery of other drivers. It stopped snowing long enough yesterday for me to finally pull out my camera.
It’s hard to estimate just how much snow has fallen. Some areas have deeper drifts from wind but enough has fallen that there’s even plenty in forested areas. It’s still light and powdery; I’m guessing there’s at least four to six inches. I’ll post more snow pictures over the next couple of days. In the meantime, for those of you watching the white stuff come down: do stay warm!
Olympic Discovery Trail
Here’s a view of the Olympic Discovery Trail (ODT) looking west from Kitchen-Dick Road. The ODT is an ambitious trail project which, when completed, will stretch 130 miles from Port Townsend to the Pacific Ocean. Five original railroad trestles have been converted for trail use. This year is expected to mark the completion of 53 miles. It is an interesting trail in that it traverses towns, farms, fields, and the rivers and streams of the Olympic Peninsula. It is a wide, paved multi-use pathway. Unlike wildland trails, it crosses city streets so users do need to be mindful of traffic hazards.
Going, going. . .
It’s time to take long looks at my favorite trails in the Dungeness Recreation Area. Though some trees and shrubs are evergreen, lots of roses and other foliage are deciduous and will be shedding their leaves soon. It’s pretty year round, but changing leaves also mean the weather won’t be quite so friendly soon.
Theme Day: Perspective
Today’s City Daily Photo Theme Day is “Perspective.” This is one of my favorite views in the Dungeness Recreation Area.
Chill out
This is for those of you in the steamy red zones on the weather maps, a view after one of our snows last winter. I find respite in a cool daydream when it’s especially hot. . .I hope this can help you endure until cooler days finally come. This is taken from a trail in the Dungeness Recreation Area.
Walk at Dungeness Rec Area
These are two parts of the trail I took at Dungeness Rec Area. In the second one when I came to the meadow three deer were looking at me, but you’ll have to squint to find them probably. Everything is so green still, not surprising with the weather we’ve had.
