Best of the Peninsula: 2nd Hand Shop
Here’s another winner in the Peninsula Daily News polling. Goodwill was selected by readers as our best 2nd hand shop. This store opened in Sequim a year or so ago; there’s another branch in Port Angeles.
Goodwill is big. In addition to clothing, they sell small appliances and televisions that Goodwill workers have fixed if necessary, kitchenware, and some furniture. They do stock some new items and there was a big selection of stuffed toys when I was there last week. I picked up a really good Eddie Bauer down coat here for a song a year or two ago. In case I haven’t admitted it before, I’m an avowed bargain hunter.
Locals: old computers, monitors, and televisions can be recycled for free at Goodwill, another reason to make a stop here.
I’ll take one of each
Hanging flower baskets and spring foliage at Sunny Farms store. Winter lasted for at least two seasons. It’s hard not to be dazzled into buying a truckload.
Decisions
Spring has finally arrived and Sunny Farms Nursery is bursting at the seams with plants and people.
My garden is in. . . if you don’t talk about the seeds that haven’t come up. What have you planted?
How to choose
This soda display caught my eye in the Sequim Coop. The Coop sells a great selection of old time nostalgia candy – like Turkish Taffy, which I remember from my childhood. Now there’s this soda array. This is just part of the display. I had no idea you could drink so many flavors of anything.
Red Rooster Grocery
It’s looking like spring in front of the Red Rooster Grocery where you can find all things local. Vegetable starts are ready and waiting for those of us who are oh so ready to get outside and play in the dirt.
Let us eat cake
Here are some of the creations showcased by That Takes the Cake, one of Sequim’s newest bakeries. Their Facebook page shows other creations. They also make specialty or theme cakes, so you don’t have to get married to justify ordering a memorable cake if your budget allows more of a wow factor than the standard sheetcake we all know so well.
