Soon to Be Built…Elk Plaza

If you don’t count the elevator, Sequim is soon to have it’s very first three story building in the downtown area. There are some senior apartments out on the west end, but this will be something new for the downtown area. the story I’ve linked appeared in our local newspaper and mentions condos on the third floor, office buildings on the second, and boutiques on the first floor. Hum…wonder what those condos will go for?

This ends my new construction series…but believe me, I’ve only scratched the surface.

New Development

Just west of Walmart, a strange looking building is being built. It’s hard to tell exactly for what purpose it has been designed, and the strangest part is there is no sign stating it’s intended purpose. Most proudly announce a future Popeyes, Petco, Rite-aide, and so forth. It also has an odd look as you approach from the round about. It is being build at a lower elevation and looks a bit like a roofed dugout.

Sequim, under construction…again

Believe it or not, there are those who like for me to stop this blog…hide Sequim under a bushel, so to speak…don’t tell a soul about how wonderful it is to live here. Some days I can’t blame them. I moved here in 1995 permanently. To my way of thinking, coming from a city of 80,000 plus, it was a sleepy little town and it suited me just fine. Apparently it suits a lot of other folks too.
As of late, it seems as though everywhere you look there are new homes and businesses being built. I will be sharing just of few of these over the next week….and I have to do it with my old, old camera. My little Cannon has a problem. It has to go to the doctor and that has not been with out a lot of cussing and crying on my part. Hopefully they will return it to me quickly. Otherwise, I may just have to turn fickle and buy the new S5 IS when it comes out in June.

Sequim High School Operetta

As part of the Irrigation Festival, Sequim High School presented it’s 41st annual operetta, 7 Brides and 7 Brothers. Friday was opening night…and it was fantastic. I do hope local readers get a chance to attend. I plan on going a second time. Here three of the brothers are singing “Lonesome Polecat”. For those of you who might not be familiar with this story, it is worth checking out a DVD or video and enjoying a great musical.

Today’s the day! I’m getting sun and wind burned…and hopefully a lot of good photos.

Kids Day

The week leading up to the Irrigation Festival is packed with activities. Today was Kids Day. It started off with a parade down Fir Street. Children came decked out in costume and then moved on to other activities. One of the most popular was “Touch a Truck”. Several of the local businesses and service organizations brought vehicles for children to climb in, touch, and ask questions about. They then moved on to more important things, like rock painting. I’ll be featuring pictures from these events over the next couple of days in our count down to the big parade!

6 days and counting…
