Summer here is a paradox. The blooms come and go so quickly; I’ve already cut the withered flowers of these iris. And although our lettuce is growing like crazy we haven’t had enough vibrant summer days to get many of the other plants turning into vegetables. I refuse to believe that I’m too much of an optimist but check back in a month or two.

One eyed barn
I Photoshopped this shot for a little variety…I’m not sure what I think of it. It’s got visual fog like what’s been in my brain lately. I’m sure nobody else has experienced that before.
Flaming leaves
These leaves were a real “wow” as we walked by. They were even better up close.
Eagle update
We’re seeing more eagles around these days, regularly wheeling on thermals in the sky behind our house. One passed our window today, chased by an angry crow. I found this one perched a few months back.
Cloudscape
The day I took this the billowing clouds were glorious. Not so much today. Rain’s forecast.
Husband day care
I guess this addresses a longstanding tradition of bored husbands wandering through cutsie boutiques and ladies wear departments.
There were a few takers. (No, DH is not among them.)
Seen in Palm Springs, California earlier this year.
Poppies
DH gathered a bouquet of poppies from our garden. They’d been pretty beaten up by our recent winds and began to droop within a day or so. Maybe it’s my personal familiarity with the term “past its prime,” but I have an increasing appreciation for faded beauty.
