Killdeer are perky, active little birds living throughout the western U.S. Though it is a shorebird it can be found in all sorts of places inland. I can spot them typically by following their seemingly continuously fussing and calling, day and night. They will nest on any open ground, which means even a gravel driveway will do, an unpleasant surprise if no one’s driven for a few days during nesting season.

Just try to stay grumpy
I’m guessing you didn’t immediately recognize what this is. It’s among the more creative mailboxes I’ve seen.
The body and horns are constructed from metal tubing. Wouldn’t you think something like this would gladden the heart of the most sullen postal carrier?
It’s summer somewhere
It’s summer in the southern hemisphere. If you follow photo bloggers in Australia, as I do, you can be rewarded with luscious summer scenes. The downside is when I return to reality and look out the window.
It could be worse. I know it could be much worse.
Willing gull
Seagulls are generally patient and willing photographic subjects. I think it has a lot to do with the expectation of a bribe. I’m a big disappointment.
Bottle art
I like the way that light plays on just about any kind of glass. But sometimes I just don’t get bottle art.
Late note: I failed to see that this is a dragonfly. Thanks to those who observed better than I did .
January black and white
This barn is located in Agnew, a little community to the west of Sequim. I’d put it in the “seen better days” class though it’s holding its own.
Tough butts
I found a long row of old farm equipment lined up in a field.
I don’t know enough about them to give these units proper names. By the looks of them they hitch up to horses for the farmer to follow along while harrowing fields and such. Take a look at the seats in these shots. They make the simplest seat today look positively cushy. Seems to me we have pretty privileged behinds nowadays.
