Rhythm of the Dance

I was treated to a performance by the National Dance Company of Ireland on Sunday. In addition to a fabulous four day festival in May, our Juan de Fuca Foundation offers a season of concerts, music, dance, and performance. A friend had a spare ticket and I got lucky. A front row seat to Irish dancing.

It was a blur of high energy step dancing accompanied by lively music. Check their website here for a video and more information about the company. They have traveled the world and are touring the U.S. over the next month with a schedule that looks exhausting.

Frosty? Is that you?

We had two warm(-ish), sunny days and a half inch of rain overnight. This is all that was left of five foot Frosty yesterday as he vanished. How the mighty fall.

Lest you think our snow is history, one only needs to drive to slightly higher elevations and there’s plenty of snow to go around. Frosty here lived in the lowlands. His uphill cousins are still thriving.

We’ve had a different assortment of birds in our backyard lately. We don’t usually have geese and ducks. Everyone’s out looking for food.

The mourning doves haven’t had an easy time of it lately. We have a little flock that hangs around our garden. Lately I’ve found them perched on our garden fence and apple tree, puffed up against the cold. I’m guessing they’re not happy.

Winter contrasts

This is one of my favorite barns, taken last Sunday. I love how colors pop against a snowscape.

More snow kept us in on earlier this week. We’ve had some warmer temps and possible rain is mentioned in weather forecasts. Hope so. Most people I talk to are missing “normal.”

Happy Valentine’s Day

Rose hips in the snow. That’s the closest I could get to flowers or candy to celebrate St. Valentine’s Day. Enjoy your day. I hope it’s filled with love.

Slush

This was a parking lot I ventured into last Sunday. Our other roads looked a lot like this too. We get snow perhaps once or twice a year, a few inches at lower elevations. So we don’t have a lot of snow removal equipment. “Wait and let it melt” usually works pretty well in most cases. Not so much lately.
