Views of Sequim, the Olympic Peninsula. . .and beyond
I last showed you this barn in November here. It was pretty sorry looking even then. Its peaked roof was swaybacked and studded with holes.
Still, I wasn’t prepared for such a dramatic collapse when I drove past last Saturday. I can only guess that our recent snows were too much weight for the aged roof to bear.
Despite some very cold days and nights we still have hummers around. They can adapt to short bouts of severe weather by lowering their body temperatures at night, entering into torpor (dormancy), or converting more sugar to fat.
I don’t think these mowers at Home Depot are going to be pressed into service anytime soon. The grass they’re meant for is still hibernating anyhow.
The beach near the old Three Crabs Restaurant has gradually transformed as it has returned to a more natural state. A long line of piers has been removed and nearby wetlands have more tidal flows. The New Dungeness Light Station is shown in the distance here.
A sweet little dark eyed junco. My bird book says they are nervous and flighty but this one begged to differ.
Footprints. I’m guessing it was gulls. They were everywhere.
