Sequim Art Center and Museum

A favorite stop for almost everyone was The Sequim Art Center and Museum where the bones of a mastadon discovered in this area is a big draw. Although I am not sure why, the tusks are preserved in a tank of liquid. I hadn’t been in the museum since they had remodeled. It was a very nice surprise. I really like how they have opened it up. If you are local and haven’t been in lately, it is a treat.

First Friday Art Walk

mg.JPG
Sequim, like many other small towns, is always looking for ways to get the townfolk downtown and in to the shops. On the First Friday of each month, an “art walk” is held through out the downtown area with different venues open to the public.
One of the many hats I wear is teaching English as a Second Language class for the local college. This turned out to be the perfect field trip. Some of the standards for ESL are: the ability to read directions, listen to and comprehend directions, and give oral directions. We downloaded the map and away we went! Students had to give and follow directions to the different venues using the map. (Thumbnail One) Once there, they had to engage someone in conversation and find something of note to write about later. The main photo is of two students viewing the art at theWildlight Gallery.
We started off at The Buzz (Thumbnail Two) and then fanned out in small groups all over town.
I’ll be sharing more of our adventures in the next few days.

Smallest Store in Downtown Sequim

flakes.jpg
On Washington Street in downtown Sequim, is a very small storefront, Sequim Bay Merchants.com. Their window caught my eye. I loved the snowman, his sign, and the trees in the background are sticks with marshmellows stuck on the end! It wasn’t until I got home that I realize my snowman was missing an eye in the picture. I don’t know if it was the angle I shot the picture or just what happened. Local viewers will have to stop by and check out some of their unusal gifts.

Fall at Purple Haze

While waiting for Mass Friday evening, I decided to take a page from my brother Denton and take a walk downtown. This is the Fall window at the downtown store of “Purple Haze”, the folks who started the lavender craze in Sequim. It’s a wonderful place to find lavender scented products, nice people, and unusual gifts. Their website also has wonderful recipes. they include Lavender Honey Bunches, Pear and Lavender Clafoutis, and Lavender Margaritas. A previous “post”shows the out side of the store during the day in late summer.
