Merchandising

red-merchandise

There’s a real art to displaying stuff. I know I take it for granted until I come upon an assortment of merchandise that unexpectedly stops me in my tracks. There, like a banquet of eye candy, is an array of things that tell a story or soothe with form and color or texture.

over-the-fence-back

Over the Fence generally does it well. This is the back of their store where they display outdoor items like those above. Inside is more eye candy. I usually lust after something I never though I wanted before. That’s good merchandising.

Mural to be

mural-to-be

I spied a mural in process on East Washington Street on the the building that houses Jose’s Famous Salsa restaurant. I took this shot a couple of weeks ago and haven’t been back since. It may be finished by now.

Last summer Jose’s expanded into the space next door and now has a bar. In warmer weather the front of the building can open onto al fresco seating next to the sidewalk.

Oak Table Cafe

acorn-man

This acorn face hangs next to the Oak Table Restaurant, one of the reliably good places to have breakfast in Sequim. In addition to standard breakfast fare they offer specialties like an apple pancake that looks more like a souffle, quiche, Swedish pancakes, and blintzes. Makes me hungry just writing about it.

Theme day: Library

Library lights

Welcome to the Sequim Library. I thought I’d start out with a view inside. Yes, there are plenty of books. But I really like the ceiling and light fixtures.

Library door

Our library is a welcoming place.

Library front

It’s also a busy community resource. I counted no fewer that eight people — including a family group of three generations — as I quickly shot these pictures.

Doodlebugs

Doodlebugs 1

I’ve always managed impulse control pretty well but Doodlebugs on Washington Street severely tests me. I’ve got a habit and they have my fix. You may know me as a photo blogger but I spend a lot of time — and an inordinate amount of money — making greeting cards.

Doodlebugs 2

I’m addicted to rubber stamps. And dies. And designer paper. And embellishments. And alcohol ink pens. And a lot more stuff than you’re probably interested in reading about. Doodlebugs, owned by a family of very nice and exceedingly talented people, has it all. And if they don’t have it they’ll get it for you. (Their customer service is truly awesome.)

If you don’t know how to do something they can usually demonstrate it to you. Chances are they may even offer a class. And if all else fails, buy a coloring book, sit down, and color. It’s supposed to be very soothing.
