No, really?!

I took today’s pictures 10 days ago at Costco, October 3rd.

As I took these shots a couple of people walked by and commented on the decorations I was photographing. But nobody else seemed amazed/annoyed/flummoxed/surprised/peeved or anything else about two aisles of Christmas merchandise — and the accompanying tinny Christmas carols — out and ready to go in early October.

Yesterday I saw the same thing in Walmart.

Therefore, allow me to be among the first to wish you a very Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays. ((Sheesh!))

Day trippin’

pt-gamble-po

I took a day trip to Port Gamble yesterday. It’s a sweet little former logging town on the Kitsap Peninsula. This is the Port Gamble Post Office building. Notice the floral display in front of the building. It’s worth a closer look. Tomorrow I’ll move in for a better view.

Doodlebugs

Doodlebugs 1

I’ve always managed impulse control pretty well but Doodlebugs on Washington Street severely tests me. I’ve got a habit and they have my fix. You may know me as a photo blogger but I spend a lot of time — and an inordinate amount of money — making greeting cards.

Doodlebugs 2

I’m addicted to rubber stamps. And dies. And designer paper. And embellishments. And alcohol ink pens. And a lot more stuff than you’re probably interested in reading about. Doodlebugs, owned by a family of very nice and exceedingly talented people, has it all. And if they don’t have it they’ll get it for you. (Their customer service is truly awesome.)

Doodlebugs 3

If you don’t know how to do something they can usually demonstrate it to you. Chances are they may even offer a class. And if all else fails, buy a coloring book, sit down, and color. It’s supposed to be very soothing.

Best produce

Corn

Sunny Farms was recently voted #1 in produce in Clallam County by Peninsula Daily News and Sequim Gazette readers. Based strictly on the corn I’ve gotten there lately, it’s a hands down winner in my book. I’ve commuted to Sunny Farms regularly for the last few weeks to get fresh corn and cantaloupe. I can’t seem to get enough. Summer deliciousness!

Honor stand

Honor stand

This is something you don’t see in metropolitan areas: an honor stand. It’s a simple concept. If the farmer’s not there to take your money, you leave it in the box.

Sofie greens

A friend recommended this spot to me. In addition to greens there were potatoes, sweet onions, turnips, beets, and strawberries. I picked up some garlic to tide me over until mine is harvested and ready.

Sofie Farm Stand

Sofie Farms is on Evans Road. It’s a popular spot. There were lots of customers while I was there.
