So you’ve heard about my relentless pursuit of Mr. Kingfisher…
I actually got this shot the same day but at the marina. Kingfishers are always here and they like to fly back to the tops of the masts.
Views of Sequim, the Olympic Peninsula. . .and beyond

Two eagles on watch near dungeness.
I really should go hit the 7 Winds Casino down the street…
First I got the Kingfisher, then a week later I got this Redwing Blackbird in flight. He too, I have been chasing for 7 years. I have plenty of shots of both of them sitting pretty on branches or fences. But catching either of them in flight is HARD. They are both fast, and to make things worse, Redwings fly in and out of cat tails which makes it crazy hard to keep focus.
To make things harder this bog with cat tails is right next to Hwy 101. So you have to fight the wind from cars blowing past.
These love birds (with a Brunnich’s Guillemot peeping tom below) were doing a reunited beak dance. Each time one came back to the nest they would rub their beaks together back and forth.
I took this at Alkefjellet in the Arctic.
Well, I am a Kingfisher…
I have been trying to catch a good Kingfisher in flight shot for 7 years! At long last. This guy was at Railroad Bridge Park, flitting in a triangle between two stumps and a tree. I spent about 3 hours there but finally captured quite of few shots I’m happy with.
This Baldy pair have a nest about 20 ft below on this snag. The one on the left is the female. They are about 25% larger than the males. Females weigh 10-15lbs and the males 6-9 lbs.
This eagle and its mate were flying all around the end of the bay “talking & squawking” at each other. I can’t believe how used to seeing this I am. I always stop and watch–even after living here for over 3000 days!
Sequim is a BEAUTIFUL place to live.
