Not sure which these will grow up to be… but they were cute and the only younglings around at Carrie Blake Park Pond.

Resting Tufted Puffin
This puffin was resting with her head tucked in…occasionally opening her eyes for a peak. Taken off of Protection Island.
Rhinoceros?
A Rhinoceros Auclet that is in the back. You can see his little horn on the beak. The other two are puffins. These were taken near Protection Island off of Sequim.
Protection Island Puffin
Protection Island is supposed to have the largest colony of Tufted Puffins in Washington state. I’ve been going out since April and still have only seen two couples. But they are gorgeous!
Hard to shoot from a bouncing boat however….
They’re Back….
The swallows are back at my lil barn house this year. I’ve been hearing the little chirps for a week or so and the parents are hunting with desparate frequency now. Finally saw some lil faces today.
Galapagos–Here’s looking at YOU
This one of my FAVORITE photos I took in the Galapagos. It’s of a Pelican resting. They often tuck their beaks under their feathers. I went around behind him (often getting a sneaker wave over my backside!) and sat on the ground so I could get a really low shot…Then he opened his eyes and stared straight at me!

Galapagos female Flightless Cormorant
The female’s eyes are round and oh so beautiful!
Cormorants in the Galapagos have evolved to be flightless and do all their hunting underwater by swimming. They can no longer fly at all.
