This Blue Footed Booby mom has one big fuzzy chick!
I took this off of protection island a few months ago. We could only find 3 puffins. This used to be one of the largest colonies on the west coast. I talked with a marine biologist who said it was predation by eagles that have changed this area. Too many chicks picked off so they don’t return. So sad…they are really cool birds.
These adorable chicks probably wont make it. All of the rest of the younglings are just starting to fly. They need to be able to fly by end of August or they wont make it ahead of the snow.
Ahhh that hits the spot. This pelican was trying everything to itch the top of his head.
This female Tufted Puffin was taking a nap while the male swam around. Taken off Protection Island.
What an awesome bird. This year is the first time I’ve seen them. They don’t come into Sequim Bay. They are found all around Protection Island, their breeding ground.
