Views of Sequim, the Olympic Peninsula. . .and beyond
Looking over my posts from 2016 these two shots from Butchart Gardens last spring really caught my eye. In the middle of winter the foliage and color was a sight for sore eyes.
I think I’ve formulated a 2017 resolution: get back to Butchart Gardens again this spring.
I went for the obvious for today’s City Daily Photo theme, “Transition.”
This is one of the bigger transitions in my life, the day a gigantic moving truck picked up everything we owned in California and drove off. After several stops it arrived at our destination, Sequim, Washington. This marked the end of my life spent entirely in California, the end of my working career, and, for a while, the end of much that was familiar. Knowing all this, I was filled with excitement. The lack of anxiety assured me that all would be well, as it has been.

This is a beach in Gualala, California and Marie turned back to have a look on her way home from an afternoon of fishing. It’s too great a shot not to share, don’t you think? Thank you, Marie!

A flawless day on Port Townsend Bay last summer.
My trip to Port Gamble early this month included a visit to Buena Vista Cemetery, established in 1856. Like most pioneer cemeteries, its occupants arrived long ago from distant shores. Many resting souls came from Maine but there were also former residents of Ireland, Sweden, Finland, Scotland, England, and Canada.
Though many of the tombstones were unreadable from years of exposure, some, sadly memorialized infants and children. Unlike many cemeteries it doesn’t seem as if graves are packed as tightly as cordwood. And, as the name implies, “Buena Vista” has a fine view.
Port Gamble is a colorful little town any time of year. It’s especially nice cloaked in fall brilliance.
