Our Friend Eula

At Trinity United Methodist Church, friends of Eula Kirby gathered to remember her life.  A charter member of the Sunbonnet Sue Quilt Club, Eula’s Celebration of Life was a reminder of all those things she loved.  Eula was an organist and music filled the church, along with many of the beautiful quilts she made.  The family brought in a huge number of plants from a local nursery.  At the end of the service, those in attendance were ask to choose a plant  to take home and put in their garden as a living reminder of Eula each year.  It was a lovely tribute.

I’m Back

Due to an unfortunate accident, I’ve been on hiatus for much too long.  I can’t guarantee all the photos will be interesting or not crooked…but I’d like to give it a try again.

For those who would like to know how the shoulder is progressing, there is a separate link. Thank you Denton for taking care of things in my absence.

This a photo of one of my favorite plant stores.  On the corner of Sequim/Dungeness and Fir, you can find all kinds of wonder and unusual plants for your garden

Sometimes Stuff Happens

On December 4th I flew to Mexico City to visit friends. December 7th I took a tumble, fractured the head of my right arm in three places, and ended up in a wonderful private hospital in Mexico City. They put a plate in with seven screws…I really ring at the airport now. I was able to stay for most of the rest of the trip with my children. They took excellent care of me and I had a wonderful time. However, yesterday, it was determined the top two screws did not hold. It is a complicated surgery and the local orthopedic is sending me to the University of WA hospital.

While in Mexico, I learned how to turn my camera, a Cannon SI3, upside down, adjust the screen, which swung out, so I could see what I was shooting, and then hold the camera with one hand and take a picture… granted if it was an action shot… it was over before I was ready. I threw half of them away when I returned… crooked, out of focus, but I still have some wonderful memories. My brother “Denton” changed my posts to repost for another month, and I was hoping to start again this next week. I am going to have to take a break. I have ask Denton to take my site down on January 18th… but I will be back! As I recover, expect a visit now and then. I am still one handed typing, so comments may be brief.

Best to you all… Your photos have opened a whole new world for me.

Again… Repost

I interrupt my trip to the beach to post a “dusting” of snow. It isn’t much at this point, but the forecast is for cold, really cold, for the next two days. Schools have already been canceled and delayed starts at some. Coming from PA to Sequim, a distance of 15 miles, took almost an hour around noon. “Morse Creek” always slows traffic, but there were already cars in the ditch. I want what we are famous for..sunshine!

P.S. I have to explain what that bottle is doing next to the bird bath. Ever have a problem with moles? I tried everything…and I do mean everything. My sis told me about an article in a gardening journal. You bury long neck bottles at an angle, leaving about 2 inches above the ground. Wind blows, causes the bottle to vibrate, moles leave that area alone. I dig the bottle up once a year and dump out any rain water inside. My own private “beer garden”. I don’t know if it really works or the moles ate everything in the soil and left….but NO Moles!
