This beauty sits next to the South off ramp on Sequim dungeness Way…less than a mile from downtown. You can see those light poles I posted earlier. I confess I don’t know it’s history, but I love the look of it.

The Old Mill Cafe
After a long absence, I had lunch at The Old Mill Cafe in Carlsburg. The food was excellent. Their clam chowder is just the best. Carlsburg is a spot in the road between the town of Sequim proper and my house. Although the 200 census reports only 800 inhabitants, it does have a post office, a restaurant, an industrial park, and some small shops. It also has a rich history. The log mill, which closed in 1967, was important economic endeavor in this area. A Google search failed to produce a website dedicated to the history of Carlsborg. This surprised me. I have broken the rules and posted a second picture today of a stump in front of the restaurant. The stump was brought to the area from up in the mountains by a generous donor…and possibly a happy customer.
Pond in Late Afternoon
As you head East on Happy Valley Road, just as you make the curve, there is a small pond on the South side of the road. It almost looks upside down…..
Guardians at the Gate
Often as I drive to work, I’ve noticed these birds perched on top of the street lights that are on the River Road overpass. There wasn’t anywhere to pull off and take a picture. Then I found they were also perching on the street lights along the bypass. I know they aren’t seagulls, eagles or sparrows…after that…maybe pigeons? Where is my bird book when I need it?
Roses
Did you read “Dear Abby” yesterday? When selecting a picture for this Valentine’s Day, this picture came to mind. In fairness, it was my camera, I was there, but I didn’t take this picture. It was taken at the rose garden in Tacoma and this beauty was there with her daughter. Don’t forget to call or spend some time with someone is alone today.
Washington State Patrol
The area office for the Washington State Highway Patrol is located halfway between Sequim and Port Angeles. These fine men and women do an excellent job of responding to accidents, provding ferry terminal security, reminding drivers to drive with care, and helping to make our lives safer. thankyou to those who do this difficult job.
155 and Climbing
Last year we had a rash of accidents on Highway 101. It’s nice to see the number going up.
