Views of Sequim, the Olympic Peninsula. . .and beyond
The Elks Lodge on Port Williams Road offers facilities for local events in addition to regular Elks functions. For instance, the Olympic Peninsula Mycological Society holds its very popular annual Wild Mushroom Show here. The Elks offer regular meals for the community and also share their RV facilities for a fee.
Tonight is Pub Night featuring steaks, shrimp, burgers and fries, fish and chips, salads, and reduced price beer and wine.
The Red Ranch Inn on West Washington abruptly closed last year. I was pleased to see it open again when I drove by last Thursday. I take that as a hopeful economic indicator.
This is a sign that brought a smile to my face on a trip last summer to one of my favorite places around here: Victoria, British Columbia.
The Black Ball Ferry in Port Angeles can take you there and back in a day.
Sequim’s Skateboard Park was alive yesterday with skateboarders and bicyclists. They took turns gathering speed and defying gravity.

This cat has taken on the responsibility of greeting people and making them feel welcome at the Dungeness Cemetery. Or, at least it did in my case recently. Here it walked across the top of a grave monument, then followed me like a friendly dog. It meowed like it was telling me stories of the souls attached to the graves. Then it approached again. “You’re welcome to pet me if you’re feeling a little down.”
It’s called anthropomorphizing when you project human attributes onto an animal’s behavior. But I rather like thinking that is what this kitty is all about.
Continuing yesterday’s animal theme, here are a pair of pooches at the Sequim dog park. I could almost hear one of them saying, “Left, left, slide. . .good! Now you’ve got it!”
Watch your dog. It can be loads of fun.
This month’s City Daily Photo Theme Day is “Animals.” These big boys were chowing down not far from Home Depot.
This fellow was in the next field. Consider this an example of “Things I Never Thought About Animals Doing.” That is, how does a bull lie down? Judging by the expression on his face, in this case it didn’t feel graceful.
But all’s well that ends well. In all the photos after this one our boy’s eyes were closed and he looked quite serene.
