You can often find eagles nearby when fields are being hayed. This one checked out the action as grass was cut.

The Cutting Garden
There are a number of u-pick flower operations in Sequim and welcome signs come out as summer progresses. Here’s the Cutting Garden which offers both flowers and a venue for special events. On one side of the property is a beautiful house and gardens.
On the other side of the property, beyond this trellis, are rows of “u-pick” flowers.
Peonies, delphiniums, and columbines are blooming right now but more blooms are on the way. The cost for a large bouquet is around $8 or $8.50, though some “premium” flowers are purchased by the stalk. Next month local lavender farms throw open their fields for u-pick bouquets.

Let me take you down. . .
. . .’cause I’m going to. . .strawberry fields. . .
Cameron’s Strawberries has opened for the season and the faithful are making the most of it.
Even now, early in the season and after a rainy day, the scent of strawberries was irresistible. Half of these people were probably just innocently driving by when their noses took over. Strawberries take no prisoners.

Northern Harrier
I’ve lost count of the number of times I’ve seen Northern Harriers (Circus cyaneus) perched near the trail and I’ve not had my camera. And having my camera seems to guarantee they’re in flight, at a distance. But oneday this male stopped. It’s not what I wanted. I’ll keep trying.
Harriers fly low as they search for food across marshlands and fields, taking sudden turns and dives. The British Royal Air Force named its Harrier aircraft after these birds, inspired by their maneuverability.
