Theme Day: Streetscape

For today’s City Daily Photo challenge, “Streetscape,” I chose one of my favorite roads to drive here, Holland Road. It’s a long ribbon of a road that runs behind Sunland, a nicely landscaped neighborhood that encircles a golf course.

I love the look and feel of this long stretch of road but there aren’t a lot of spots to pull over and take photos.

Swans again

I did some trumpeter swan watching on Tuesday. They’re very social birds with interesting behaviors. (This reminds me of a recent animated breakfast with my friends.)

They will sometimes take a break from pecking around for food and stretch their large and beautiful wings.

And swans from another nearby group will fly over and join the flock.

While feeding and socializing the swans will quietly trumpet, making them also interesting to listen to. I don’t know how local farmers feel about having them in their fallow fields but I love seeing them here in winter.

No ordinary pancakes

I went to breakfast at the Oak Table Restaurant with friends recently. Two of us had pancakes. Susan, at the left, had potato pancakes – always a treat. I had a German pancake, a treat on steroids. As you can see, it’s the size of a dinner plate, a big, delicious souffle-like dish that’s a cross between a custard and a traditional pancake. It’s served with lemon wedges, powdered sugar, and butter. More than half came home with me for a shared breakfast the next day.

Oak Table has two comfortable dining rooms, attentive service, and a menu filled with reliably good food. It’s rarely as empty as shown above. This shot was taken on a snowy day.
