What’s blooming now, 2 of 2
I can view these iris out one of my windows. Always a happy sight.
What’s blooming now, 1 of 2
I have a pot of perennial columbine that has continued to bloom each spring for several years now. Despite looking desperately scraggy, a little weeding and water brings them back to cheerful blossoms.
Variations on a poppy
The Asiatic poppies in our yard are blooming again. I’d noticed that there were a few colors besides the standard red but was amazed by the colors at the center of this white one.
Pink is a more common variant and most lighter poppies have these yellow centers.
The classic red poppies have slightly darker centers. This is another variant.
As always, the wind came up as I photographed. Most of our poppies are bright red like these.
Back again
Our neighborhood deer have returned. They were gone at least a month. If I weren’t sheltering in place I might not have noticed. Around the time I realized their disappearance I heard stories of fawn births.
One who spied a newborn, Judy, learned that after birthing the does will move their fawns into hiding until they’re strong enough to go out into the world. Yesterday’s little spotted Bambi had his or her sea legs, keeping up with Mom at a good clip.
One deer Sunday. Four yesterday. They’re back in time for the blooming peonies. And now we’ll see if it’s true that they’re repelled by the onions I’ve planted.
A barn long gone
I took the photograph above in 2012. The barn was slowly collapsing into the earth. I followed it for years here through 2017. I recently took a look at what had become of it since then.
The ground has been scraped clear except for a cement pad in the distance.
I guess there are plans for the land. I’ll check back again to see if something new is planted in its place.
Make way for ducklings
More fluffy cuteness. These ducklings were near a pond at Carrie Blake Park.
