On our daily route around Sequim this morning, I was quite surprised to see a bulldozer seated on Schmuck Road, right next to where this iconic old building once stood – and sadly, the building is no longer there.
Although it may be trivia to some, and without it one may have a better view of the elk, that old shack had a lot of character and I always enjoyed seeing it. Apparently, it served its purpose on the farm long ago, but for me it served as an anchor for some of my photos, notably this one.
Wishing I had known its future in advance, I would have asked the owner for some of the wood for picture frames, but I didn’t see a trace of it left behind, nor did I see the bulldozer operator.
And I didn’t spot the elk this morning either, so I wondered if the noise and equipment scared them off. Regardless, I can only hope that they’ll return tomorrow, undeterred by the new look of the farm, and maybe more likely to get closer to my camera lens!
This saddens me, as I too love all the old buildings, artifacts & history of Sequim. Progress is snuffing out so much of what is special here. Thank you for posting this picture for our memories of this place of wonder.
