Sequim to Whidbey Island via the ferry

It was cold and wintery day for a trip to anywhere, but the view from one of our ferries can make it all worthwhile. The Cascade Mountains were peeking through the clouds and the early morning sun displayed a range of color from a beautiful blue to a soft and lovely magenta.

Whenever I board the ferry, I’m always hoping for leaping orcas, humpbacks, or dolphins, but there was no whining from me on this trip…and that in itself is remarkable!

  1. I love this pic. It shows the incredible difference that several hundred feet in elevation can make. Here in the NW you can spend an entire day in the gloom of fog and clouds with the sun just above but hidden. On the other hand, if you’re above that threshold looking down, you don’t want to go home!

Thanks for your work and for taking over from Colleen. She is one of my sister’s best friends and I have known her since she was in high school!

    1. Thank you for your comment, Tom. It’s been a bit challenging technically, but I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to get to know the readership and to display my work as well. Colleen has been a terrific mentor though and you’re both lucky to know her and call her a friend. I simply can’t praise her enough!

And I couldn’t agree more on the weather. Although we may not know what we’re going to get, a change in viewpoint can make all the difference.

  2. I’ve seen numerous beautiful blue colors but never the magenta! Wow, just gorgeous. And a great shot!!

    1. Thanks much Sandy, I hadn’t seen it either, but then I typically don’t board the ferry that early in the morning. Sunrise and sunset are most likely the best times.

  3. Wonderful, wonderful photo. The Washington State Ferries are my happy place, and the dynamism of clouds and their interplay with mountains are some of my favorite things about the PNW!

You’re doing a great job taking over from Colleen, who is also amazing.

    1. My happy place too although I don’t often get to experience it. This particular day was an exceptionally unforgettable tho! And thank you for your kindness and encouragement. Both me and Colleen appreciate the kudos!
