Swallows in action!
I believe these photos are taken at 3-Crabs. The birds are Purple Martins, not barn swallows. The tubular nest boxes are made specifically for the martins by members of Olympic Peninsula Audubon Society. The nest cavities are checked, cleaned and maintained by volunteers throughout the year. The wires on top are to discourage predators from perching on the nest boxes.
