This little blackbird egg recently showed up in our garden. There’s a bird drama here but I don’t know what it is. Blackbirds lay their eggs in nests.

Maybe this egg fell from the nest …
I don’t know what kind of egg it is!
Curious.
Hope the mystery is solved. It is strange, wonder how it got there. I would think it would be cracked if it fell. Maybe it was stolen by a critter and placed there. You might have to go undercover to investigate this mystery, Kay. Good luck! š
A bad egg that birds can sense is no good?
Iām giving our wren nest to our grandson today as part of his birthday gifts. It contains an abandoned egg-although I know chicks were born as I watched them being fed. Ahhh-Springtime. It contains more drama than our own.
Oh dear, something is amiss.
What are the dimensions of the egg? It could have fallen out of a nest, or been dropped by a predator (jay, crow, raven). I have a guide on bird eggs and will try to look it up if you can give me dimensions.
Gary, I don’t think this fell out of a nest. It’s in a patch of pea plants and not close to a tree. We have a lot of crows and blackbirds and I frequently see the blackbirds chasing the crows. I think it’s very likely the egg was stolen by a crow and dropped while it was harassed by blackbirds.
Someone stole it from the nest and then dropped it?
