Duff

Yesterday I showed you bare winter trees. Walk on any trail beneath said trees around here and this is the sort of scene you’ll find at your feet.

This is what’s called “duff,” decaying leaves or branches covering a forest floor. It provides a vital source of nutrients to forest soils and plant life.

  1. I’ve learned something new. I never heard it called duff before.
About the Scottsdale Waterfront, that description throws a lot of people. We have a series of canals here that provide water for irrigation and other things. The commercial development in Scottsdale that sits right on the edge of one of the canals has started calling itself the Scottsdale “waterfront”. There is a view of water but it is running in a canal.
