Nestless, a mystery

I discovered this tiny egg resting on a branch of our tree. It was perfectly formed, perhaps a quarter the size of a chicken egg. No nest, no bird nearby.

The best I can guess is what was suggested by a friend: it had been snatched, then dropped by a marauding bird in the “Your Offspring, My Dinner” wars.

After a few days the egg disappeared without a trace.

  1. A mystery indeed Kay, I think your friend may be right, stolen from a nest and dropped.. what a shame ✨

  2. Could be the equivalent of having a baby in the car on the way to the hospital. She just couldn’t quite make it to the nest
