It was a dark and very chilly day. I wanted to photograph ducks. It was frankly so cold I took a few pictures of this hooded merganser and called it good.

Nice photo Kay. I wish I knew their secret to keeping warm.
Andy, I think it’s a layer of downy feathers under another feather layer that is waterproof. But I can’t imagine keeping webbed feet warm. But this may be the key: this fellow was moving pretty fast.
There comes a time when a photographer has to say it ain’t worth it. Down here it would probably be the heat of summer. You still got a great shot of a beautiful duck!
He is fabulous! Worth getting out in the cold for this pic!

The duck doesn’t seem bothered by the cold plus he wanted to swim and cool off. 🙂
It’s more than good Kay, what a sweet little beauty. Amazing that they don’t feel the cold like we do.. good thing too 😉
