Here’s an example where you can see blossoms and fruit-to-be in a single frame. As best I can tell this is salmonberry (Rubus spectabilis), one of the earliest fruiting berries you can find around here. They’re described as a “mushy raspberry” and considered edible. Some people consider them “insipid”; others, “one of the best.” I don’t come across them often enough to have an opinion.

Nature does awesome things. and this is one of them.
Quite pretty.
I’ve never heard of them and probably wouldn’t eat one. I mean, really, a salmonberry. A fish and a fruit. That just doesn’t sound very good. Furthermore, aren’t salmon on their way up stream up now? Sheesh! They’re rather pretty, though. 🙂
Mushy raspberry sounds delish Kay!
We have salmonberries here, they are quite good in porridge.
I vote for “insipid”, the ones here are the nice salmon pink colour, but no taste. Give me a blackberry any time.
Growing up in S.E. Alaska, we had Salmonberries everywhere – even a hedge of them along our fence. We loved them – eaten right off the bush, on our morning hot cereal or as jelly – such beautiful pure colors, we’d make yellow salmonberry and red salmonberry jelly – ahhh the memories. Fabulous photo.
