I’ll be the first to admit that Washington winters get long for me. I know I’m a wimp but by February I need a change of scene. Since I’m a planner by temperament anyway, I start planning getaways around the time days start getting short. That beach hut in Fiji may not be in the stars, but a more realistic trip to Southern California took shape recently.
A very brief excursion to Balboa Park in San Diego during a business trip years ago left me hungry for a chance to see more. I felt I’d walked onto a movie set of a location I couldn’t quite put my finger on. My indelible memory was of a place made of eye candy.
I’ll show you more of Balboa Park over the coming days, then take you to another part of Southern California. After a long winter, aren’t you ready for a little travel too?
Well, thank you for this. I remember visiting here several times as a kid when we lived in Los Angeles, but I don’t remember much about it. We also visited the zoo and spent time in La Jolla. Isn’t it funny how some memories just go by the wayside and other stick with you? Glad you were able to get away for awhile. When we lived in Phoenix, in late summer, sometimes Lois and I would take the kids and drive to San Diego just to get away from the heat! 🙂
My sister lives near Balboa Park, it is gorgeous and a lovely place to visit. Nice captures!
I don’t recall if I’ve ever heard of this place. Beautiful architecture!
Love the first shot, so much to see here Kay! Happy holidays. We’re off to Sydney next week. Looking forward to seeing my son & grandchildren but my fear of flying grows and grows!
Very fine, Kay. No surprise that you need some sunshine and warmth after the bleakness of a northern winter. San Diego has perhaps the best year-round climate in the country.
Our weathers are pretty much the same, and when I tire of these long grey days I just remind myself of the Ontario winters I left behind many years ago. And I certainly enjoy sending spring flower photos to the relatives back East when they’re still snowbound!
I totally agree with you that a respite in sunshine country is needed, reguired after a bleak season of chilly, damp and unpleasant winter weather. Exactly what I am doing right now in Mazatlán but afraid my flight back home leaves this afternoon! Isn’t a change of scenery wonderful?!
