A friend asked why I haven’t shown more photos of the Skagit River. Simple reason is that I didn’t take too many. Those low clouds you see? It was wet. When I wasn’t training my camera on eagles I was wiping my camera off, trying to keep it dry. Its snazzy new rain hood had its limits. Eventually my own rain hood showered into my face and I couldn’t keep my glasses dry. Then there was the simple matter of a few very dumb photography lessons I learned the hard way.
There were very heavy rains in the region last November with flooding that washed out a section of the nearby road. In many spots the river had scoured the banks and trees were partially submerged in the river. It had a good flow when we were there and the water ran deep and green.
You are braver than I am! Those conditions look very intimidating, but you did get a lot of good photos.
The river looks kinda spooky in these photos. Did you take that first photo from a boat? It’s a nice shot, but are you crazy? Sheesh! Interesting greenish color in that 2nd shot.
Not easy conditions at all Kay, challenging to say the least and yet you did get some incroyable images. The first shot here is fantastic, you were in a boat? Well now you see that would be well out of my comfort zone š
It certainly looks like it’s at that high water point.
It looks like if there was more rain, it would flood again. Taking photos in rain is quite the challenge sometimes. I have a small point and shoot that I use to take photos when it rains and I love it. Fits nicely in my pocket. I carry my bigger camera in my backpack and that works too.
I am a bit hesitant about taking photos in the rain, too. I just hope the lens and camera makers figured that they would on occasion be used in bad weather and they took better steps than I to protect them.
Beautiful shot with the low clouds. I never like to shoot in the rain. So challenging! Usually, I’m so preoccupied with keeping my camera dry, the few pics I take aren’t very good. So…I totally understand your situation.
Hi Kay! In response to your response: I’m impressed that you took all the river shots while being on the river…that’s a lot of bouncing around and uncertainty and you did a damn good job! Yea!
