I think there may still be gumball machines here and there. These, part of neighbors Sharon and Steve’s collection, are of a sort that I don’t think have been around for years. The solid cast mechanisms are a clue. And when was the last time you paid a penny for anything? Heck, the Canadians don’t even use pennies anymore.

We have one and two cent coins in Europe. I’ll never understand why…
Though you won’t get a gumball with either of them!
I remember those days when when a penny went a long way for a kid.
The last few days I have been making a lot of typos. This is what I meant to say… I remember those days when a penny went a long way… for a kid.
Absolutely! I think it would be pretty cool to have a working gumball machine Marleen, I would become my young nieces and nephews favourite aunty overnight 😀
Good question! When was the last time I saw something like this?! Saw them all the time….many, many years ago. Now, I’m going to keep my eyes peeled.
You can still buy these gumball machines for yourself. I probably wouldn’t, unless I’d load it with M&Ms- I don’t even like gum.
One at the barber shop where I got snipped this morning, just the mechanism was a bit more up to date. I still have a jug of coppers with my loose change bins though, not that they’ll ever get used!
I remember the red ones. A penny would get you one gumball. Today, they’re made with plastic and probably cost you a lot more for a gumball too.
I distinctly recall using some of these!
