I came upon this display of old medical devices on a trip to the doctor a while back. This isn’t the shot I wanted but it does show an interesting assortment of doctorish stuff. While some of these devices may still find a use, I suppose, that big black bag is pretty much extinct. Anyone remember house calls?

Your photo gave me flash backs. I do remember house calls. The doctors had special licence plates so they would not get parking tickets.
I remember lots of those things, even house calls! And I think some doctors do carry smaller and less obvious medical bags when traveling. Maybe?
My doctor phoned me at home a whie back, and even that surprised me! I like that display, and would definitely take the time to peruse it.
Barely 🙂
Yes, doctors really don’t make house calls anymore!
I have a friend in Oregon who is a retired doctor. He has one of those black bags. It’s interesting because he shared the story about graduating from medical school and that’s when he got his bag. I remember talking about how the medical field has changed so much since he became a doctor. He’s around 85 yrs old and doesn’t like the move using the technology of the computer for medical stuff. Times have changed.
House calls? Nope. Interesting to see old medical/surgical tools like this — reminds me how fortunate I am to live in this day and age!
My husband recalls vividly making house calls with his father, and loved shining the spotlight attached to the car to find house numbers while making the medical visits to patients. Can you imagine now–having a doctor come to your home, bringing along his very young son?!
