My bird book declares that Steller’s jays are fairly common in western Washington but I’ve rarely seen them in our area. I saw and heard them — and moreso Western scrub-jays — a lot in California. It was a surprise to find this one perched and making a ruckus recently.

Nice surprise. More likely to find Stellar’s Jays in forested areas, with Scrub Jays favoring more open spaces like we have in the Dungeness Valley.
Stellar’s got her jay back! Or something like that. Nice shot. Some birds make a bigger ruckus than others.
Beautiful! Here we have the blue and grey jays.
Great shot. Beautiful shade of blue!
They really are noisy little critters, making their presence known!
Lots of them here, they are a lovely thing, though loud and rude!
