An elegy is a a poem of serious reflection, typically a lament for the dead. This gravestone in the Buena Vista Cemetry of Port Gamble seems an elegy. Barely readable from years of weathering yet it has a tribute of a handful of now dried flowers.

It looks so sad and neglected. But that’s to be expected, I guess, when all family members are gone or move away.
Quite poignant.
I love strolling through an old cemetery. Sad to think of all the ordinary people who are forgotten.
Worn by time yet the message is still important to honour the deceased.
I’m surprised. Wouldn’t expect to see such an old tombstone out there. These are common in New England (and completely absent in Florida).
