Maybe it’s because of where I’ve lived but there seems to be a shortage of good old fashioned stationery stores these days. Not big box megastores. You know, the kind where you can buy a single roll of scotch tape or mailing envelope and a good quality mechanical pencil. Olympic Stationers in Port Angeles is such a place.
It’s a tossup for me which I love more: a good stationery store or a good hardware store. I can usually look at things in a stationery store and figure out how to use them. That’s not always the case in hardware stores. I’ve always found what I’ve needed at Olympic Stationers. And because they stock so much, including home decor and such, I usually find plenty of other temptations, too.
I love a good paper goods store! You will be happy to know many are still thriving in Berlin. It’s only a shame I don’t do much writing on paper anymore, but when I do, I know where to go! Looks like you do too. 🙂
Looks good to me! The only problem is that they are generally quite a bit more expensive than the big box stores. But they are a lot more fun to shop in!
There’s one of them here that I’ll go to. One of our big box stationary chains just up and went and closed all of their retail outlets in favour of online work instead.
Nice store – we just lost our local stationary store in Bellingham. It was owned by the conductor of the Bellingham Symphony and apparently when he retired from the symphony he decided to close his store – a great loss to us all. You could always find just what you need there – and in reasonable quantities. I too love hardware and office supply stores.
Had to laugh after I read the narrative under your second photo because it reminds me of a fascination I’ve had ever since I was a kid for both hardware and stationery stores. I used to hang around them, just to look at the inventory. Weird? I also love jewelry stores. Quite a combination, right? Both hardware and jewelry stores are thriving here, but know of no stationery stores.
