This has been a good year for thimbleberries though this little specimen is one of the last of the season. Thimbleberries aren’t as common as some of the better known berries around here. They grow wild. In the spring they have white cup-shaped blossoms that by late summer erupt into small, bright scarlet berries with a taste slightly like a raspberry. Pick them too early and they’re tart. Too late and they’re dry and tasteless.

I’ve never seen a thimbleberry except in photos. If they taste a bit like raspberries, they must be delicious.
i’m not sure i’ve heard of a thimble berry? reminds me of a raspberry. ( ;
I don’t think I’ve heard of them before either.
I’ve never heard of them, but I’d like to try one!
I agree – it is a great year for Thimbleberries – though we didn’t get out and pick any. The roadsides were crowded with waves of the bushes – the blossoms were so pretty this spring. I usually get to them at the tasteless stage and our family saying is – yummmm Thimbleberries, taste like nothing. LOL
Since they are eatable I imagine if picked at prime time you could make jelly or jam with them?
Thimbleberries? Someone recently posted about gooseberries and I thought that now I had heard of everything.
