We visited a series of very nice aquariums at the Fred Telonicher Marine Laboratory in Trinidad, CA this month. When I arrived at a tank containing a small octopus I carefully scanned until I found it nestled into a rock outcropping. I was excited to see it since it was very well camouflaged. To my delight it slowly unfurled and made its way to the glass where I stood.
For over seven minutes it stretched, moved, and quickly danced across the glass as I took pictures, transfixed by the beauty and grace of this amazing creature.
Its tentacles curled and stretched as it swept along, an underwater dancer free of gravity’s bounds.
This is what it looked like when it emerged from its rocky home.

What a super series! I’ve not so close to a octopus before. Lots of sourpusses but not an octopus!
Wishing you a wonderful Sunday!
Those photos are awesome. I enjoy reading about your reaction, which would be similar to mine. Nature’s creatures can be so overwhelming sometimes.
Can’t say I ever had an audience with an octopus – very interesting. It indeed was well hidden.
I prefer then deep-fried as an appetizer. Sorry.
Very cool shots. Unlike Birdman, I prefer them in squid salad.
Some octopi are just show-offs.
They’re such strange creatures!
