Who doesn’t like a change of scene occasionally? A few buddies and I went to the Museum of Glass in Tacoma last week. Tacoma is about a two hour drive from Sequim and offered a nice “big city” hit for a day trip. Above is the entrance of the museum. The silver dome towering above the building is the building’s “hot shop,” the largest in the world, where artists blow glass and their work is showcased and described in real time. Click here for a link to a live video camera in the hot shop.
The plaza has a reflecting pond that contains “Fluent Steps” by Martin Blank. Click on the link to see other views and lighting of this glass art.
I’ll share more from the Tacoma trip in the coming days.
This looks like a place I would like to explore.
I would like this place, too. The making of glass has always been of interest to me.
On first take, you wouldn’t think this would be much of a draw, but I bet it was.
These photos make me wish I had gone there with you! I love living in the country but I do enjoy trips into the city every now and then. And a trip to a glass museum sounds perfect. 😉
Oh what a wonderful trip – so much to see. Love the photos. The Hot Shop is so interesting.
Quite an impressive looking museum!
I’ve been to the Corning Museum of Glass, and by your links, I can see that this one would just as exciting!
I’ve been there before and it’s a wonderful place! Lots of Chihuly. 🙂
A lot of design in these two photographs. I was in Tacoma about five years ago and thought it was a fine small city.
