This is a photo of a photo, this one behind glass in a display case in the Royal B.C. Museum. The subject is Delina Noel, taken in 1915 in British Columbia. Delina and her husband were well known prospectors and mine operators in the Bridge River area.
I suppose hunting bears might have been a matter of survival in the wilderness 99 years ago. But I’m duly impressed. Delina did it wearing a skirt.
I like you photo of a photo. Now of days women wear the pants.
Bang. Bang.
And in the snow no less.
Impressed with the wool dress.
Looks like a grizzly bear. Yikes! Nothing like a skirt for hunting bears in the snow! Well, that’s what I’ve been told.
BTW, if you get a chance, check out:

Out of the mists of time…these days she’d be wearing pants!
Must have been one tough gal!
I had a former colleague who proudly hunted bear every year, with bow and arrow. I could t quite feel the same way about hunting animals in this day and age as I might have in Delina Noel’s day.
I guess we have to react to this in the context of the times. Glad I don’t have to shoot bears to eat.
