Our house is blessed with a view of the Olympic Mountains that rarely fails to lift my heart. But starting in April we also have an ever changing array of birds that parade or flit by our windows. Nothing very exotic, mind you, though the occasional bald eagle is always exciting. The other day this quail decided to hang out near our kitchen window. These days they often peck around in small groups in the early evenings, calling to each other and taking turns standing watch.

When I was very young, my uncle used to take me quail hunting in the woods of northern Minnesota. I don’t recall ever shooting one, though. Who would want to shoot this little cutie? I quail at the thought.
Hope you have a great weekend. Enjoy your wildlife.
Some might say: Quail?
Dinner is served!
hehehehehe
Sorry.
Oh how lucky you are – I dearly miss our quail from N. CA – there just aren’t any near our house. We would have huge families of them in our yard all the time. Great photo.
Lucky you, what a wonderful visitor!
I don’t know if we have any here. Quite a pretty bird!
I raise coturnix quail – Love them such a peaceful bird. I’m currently building them a new house and once that is acoomplished then I plan to build another one so I can raise the bobwhite. I’m going for a on the ground all natural environment so I can release some of them back into the wild. Such a neat process. -Carole at GardenUp green
Birds are part of the fun of “tamed nature” when they flit into one’s yard. The purple blossoms are a pretty bit in the photo.
You win. No quail has ever visited the place I lived. But, back in greater Boston, I had peacocks and turkeys stroll through the yard. Maybe you still win . . .
such a different view from mine. and birds as well. we have lots of pigeons. and recently they decided our balconies are nice hangouts. grrrrrr
