We’ve established the basics here, but I’m not really certain about the rest. Is this a red tail hawk?
Here’s another view. It is one handsome bird. I sorta think it’s a red tail. Would anyone care to venture a guess?

Your guess is as good as my guess which would be the same guess. So, be my guest, and guess. Red-tail it is! Lovely shot. I’m envious. The only photo I’ve taken of a hawk looked like a blob in a naked tree!
No idea which bird it is but it’s beautiful and your shots are excellent!
yes it is – and it is a grand one. Love the photo of it flying – I have tried and tried to get some good flight shots and I am always a bit too late – that one is spectacular!!!!!!! Great color and form. The one in flight is one of the best I’ve ever seen. That should be framed and hung up someplace – or entered in the fair.
Dark-phase Redtail. Like many hawks, color variations can be extreme in Redtails.
Thank you, Ken! We saw a lot of these in California but here in Washington we see more harriers.
Gee, I am so disappointed. I was going to tell you what it is, but JoAnn and Ken got here first. (If you believe that, I have a bridge to sell you.)
The photo of the bird is flight is excellent!
i never managed to take a picture of a bird like that! pretty!
Great shots,Kay. Red tail it is. MB
