I’ll admit that I find jellyfish beautiful – that is, at a distance. For example, when it’s in the water and I’m not. I saw this beauty last week. It looks like someone else didn’t find it appealing and may have taken a couple of pokes at it.
My fascination was rewarded with this view as it swam its way under the pier where I was standing. The little purple aquatic “flowers” at the bottom left of this shot are actually little animals called pileworms.
Fantastic! I love your pictures!
Yikes! I do not like these things but you had made this one look very attractive. Great colors, especially when it explodes like that! It’s best not to try to touch one, though.
Have a great day today!
I had to read the title to be sure this is a jellyfish and not a gorgeous flower fallen on the water. Fabulous find, Kay!
… And now I saw the secong shot. WOW! Fantastic.
Wow – great shots and great color.
Great shots! I haven’t seen anything this nice outside of the Sea Nettles jellyfish exhibit at the Monterey Bay Aquarium. Your photos and info are always a wonderful start to my day.
Your photos are quite nice. I can’t remember ever trying to take a photo of a jellyfish. They seem quite hard to capture with a camera lens.
Kay, these are incredible photos! Great job — as usual.
The top photo looks like a delicate floral blossom.
exactly! when i am NOT in the water i like to watch them… and the colors they sometimes emit are amazing. really cool to think that they have been very important for scientific research. (http://www.livescience.com/16752-gfp-protein-fluorescent-nih-nigms.html)
