Here is what my husband has produced after one week of intensive boat-building. What doesn’t show are “dry” fittings and re-fittings of parts and pieces before each piece is permanently glued in place. And until the planking goes on the outside it can be hard to see the boat taking shape. The bow is on the left of this shot.
This is what our boat will look like when it’s all grown up. Different colors, but the same hull. It is estimated to be only 30-40% complete by the end of this week when the class ends. My husband is at the higher end of this range because he’s built the mast, some of the fittings, and has prefinished some of the wood. He will still have to paint it and fit out the interior decks and veranda. But at least it won’t entail a daily commute to Port Townsend.
What a complicated but marvelous project. It must involve attention to detail and close concentration. Anxious to see the completed boat! What a sense of accomplishment it will be!
Well, I sure am impressed. I think you’ve got to be able to visualize how it’s all going to fit together as you’re working on it. I’m not too good at that. I’d stand back and take photos of your husband/artisan!
I think he has accomplished a LOT! I’ve lived with a boat builder and it’s a ton of work.
So cute! I’m sure you will have some great time when the boat is ready.
A lot of hard work but I’m sure it’s going to be beautiful in the finished product.
I’m wondering what colors your husband has chosen.
The current thinking on colors is a dark green hull with black and yellow boot top, buff topsides and a tanbark sail.
It’s coming along nicely! I could see the bow taking shape without you mentioning it. It’s so nice to know people still exist who have the craftmanship and patience to create things like this themselves. What colors is Hubby leaning towards for the final product?
nice project!
and who gets to choose the colors?
