It’s open!

Signs are up, paper is off the windows, and Kiwi’s Fish and Chips has been officially open for business for about a week (though not when I took this shot around 9 a.m.).

So far there are two reviews on Yelp.com. One’s great, one’s not. That sounds about par for the course with a new restaurant. But the location is good, on Washington Street near Sequim Avenue, and the fish qualifies fish and chips as health food, right? And think of the lycopene if you add catsup!

  1. Oh, Patricia, you’re tough! New restaurants are notoriously uneven until they get into a groove. I hope you’ll give them some time to get up and running before you completely write them off. . .

  2. I agree Kay, but we “wasted” 27.00 on 2 skimpy meals that were loaded with grease. We still were hungry afterwards besides having belly aches later in the evening (presumably from all that oil). The fish was a meager size and you only get 1 piece with the fries. 11.00 for Cod and 14. for Halibut. I wanted to back out when I saw the prices, but my husband thought “this may be the meal of the century!”. It sure was. Money is too dear and we eat out so rarely…

  3. Ouch! I’d be upset at a bad $27 meal, too, Patricia. We count our $$ too and our occasional lunch out is usually a $1.50 Costco hot dog. . .I just so hope that local businesses can make a go of it, especially going into a less busy time of the year.

  4. I agree about local business too! That’s why we tried them! We go out of our way to buy stuff locally..and we have such fun at the little shops in town. My husband’s Mom, when she visited, loved every little knick-knack in every shop up and down Washington street. She bought also so that helped! One thing I wish, that the local restaurants would print up a tiny menu in the newspaper so we could see ahead of time “what we’re walking into”. Maybe a coupon for a free cup of coffee would entice us in! Yes, it’s hard to beat those Costco dogs!! And refillable sodas!

  5. the only type of fish i like… 😉
regarding yelp, i never know what to think. i tend to believe the negative reviews more than the positive, at least when there are more negative. i always forget about yelp, unless im very disappointed and then i write something negative..
