Deer can be seen grazing everywhere now but easy sighting days are numbered in the Dungeness Recreation Area. Pheasant hunting will begin on October 6th and the deer lie low once the hunters come out. Hunting is on weekends after the area is stocked with pheasants that are raised for this purpose.

So beautiful! Great spotting, lucky you.
A great reason to lie low! And I don’t understand stocking an area with raised pheasants to be hunted.
Can’t say that I understand it either, Paul.
Some of the imported pheasants escape into our area once in a while. And, yes, it does seem strange to have to curtail walking in the Rec Area on weekend and holidays. Couldn’t we just have a Pabst Blue Ribbon Octoberfest instead of releasing pheasants on the old Pabst hunting preserve?
I understand raising animals and hunting… she’s beautiful though!
We spotted three deer this morning breakfasting on someone’s lawn. They are such lovely creatures. I adore the softness of the grass against this doe’s coat in your image.
